There have been
times over the last few months when our faith has dimmed, when we have cried
buckets of tears, when we have been scared and numb with fatigue. It is not
only heartbreaking to watch our sweet three-year-old go through so much, it is
difficult to watch our daughter and son-in-law struggle. They are the most
amazing parents. It is a time of sacrifice and yearning.
I read through the
story in Mark 9 of the man asking for healing for his son. The disciples had no
luck and the man turns to Jesus as He heads their way. His son had been ill for
years and the man asks if Jesus can heal him. Jesus answers, “Everything is
possible for one who believes.” And the father answers, “I do believe. Help me
with my unbelief.” Jesus healed his son.
(see Mark 9:14-29
Jesus understands
our limitations. He appreciates our open hearts as we come to Him. These words
above spoke to my heart as I ask God to help my unbelief during the times of
fear. Even our faith is a gift from God. He will increase our faith when we
ask.
In this story,
Jesus also claims that this type of healing comes only through prayer. He hears
all of us as we lift Gavin up to Him time and time again.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is
impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Mark 19:26
Dear Jesus,
Help us with our unbelief. Increase our faith. With You all
things are possible.
Amen
