Our warfare is not against flesh and blood. It is a spiritual
battle. We wear the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the
belt of truth, the shoes of peace and hold the shield of faith firmly in place.
Our two offensive weapons are the word of God which is the sword of the Spirit
and prayer.
Our own minds and
our thoughts can be our greatest enemy. Negative thoughts about ourselves, our
circumstances and others can become habitual and self-defeating. I highly
recommend a book by Joyce Meyer, called The
Battlefield of the Mind if you have not read it. Again, the word of God can
help us overcome our thought processes in order to believe God above all else.
I used part of the following Scriptures last week, but needed them for myself
again this week.
The
weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they
have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every
pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and we take captive
every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
Take captive every thought? Let’s
believe it. We are chosen and loved. We are here for a purpose. We can overcome
the powers of darkness as we study and believe Scripture and put it into practice.
Jesus used the words of God to combat the temptations of Satan. Satan knows our
weaknesses and when we are most vulnerable. With every temptation, Jesus spoke God’s
word out loud. It is a powerful weapon, the power to demolish the strongholds
in our lives.
Dear Father in heaven,
You give us the power to overcome even our own thought
processes. Help us to demolish whatever is keeping us from serving, obeying and
trusting You above all else. We capture every negative thought and change them
to Your will.
In Jesus name,
Amen
