Limitless Protection

As we willingly listen to God, we can allow ourselves to be His beloved children. Relax in His arms, knowing He will hold you up and believe in you.  He chose you! This truth will give us the freedom to be ourselves, to be humble, to give ourselves a break. We are human. Our failures and missteps don’t grieve our Father in heaven. He is the God of new beginnings and second chances.

His protective arms can give us the eyes to see others as beloved children, too. If only each person would understand the love of Christ. It would be a new world, one that will ultimately be available for all of us who believe in Him.

Be His child today and sit with Him for a time. Soak up His unconditional love and His free gift of grace. His light will fill you with His type of joy and hope. Always hope. Angels wings will surround you. The eyes of heaven are upon you.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield will be your rampart. Psalm 91:4

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11

Such precious words for us to end the week. It is HIS faithfulness that keeps us going. His angels will guard us in all our ways. I love the thought of these mighty heavenly beings guarding us, guiding us, surrounding us.

You are His forevermore. His limits know no bounds.

Father,

As we trust in You and Your ways, we have freedom to move within Your boundaries, to feel loved and protected as we move through our earthly days. Help us to see others through Your eyes.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Limitless Freedom

There are those who believe Christianity will rob us of all fun. No more parties, no more adventure, no more freedom.  In fact, just the opposite is true! In Christ we have true freedom to be ourselves, made manifest through Him. He offers forgiveness from all we have or will do. He offers freedom from the chains that have bound our past, whether guilt, anger, bitterness, greed, addictions, or pain.

Our souls can be lifted to heaven each day, as we recognize the truth of our real home. As Christ begins to grow us into His righteousness, we feel ourselves letting go of the chains, and enjoying our freedom in Him.

So, if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed. John 8:36

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17

God has freed us from sin and death. Take in a deep breath and let it out. You are free!

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2

Jesus,

You did it! You set us free! Don’t let us lose the awe and wonder of our salvation as we move freely in Your love and grace.

Amen

Speech Limits

It is a year filled with anger, hate and violence in our country and it’s easy for us to get caught up in it as we each take a side. We do need to speak the truth of God in love. Some of us are meant to speak up in politics, to serve and take a stand, to speak out against what we know is not right. Always. But God does set limits on how and when we speak. The Holy Spirit, if we trust Him, will guard our hearts and our mouths as we move out into the world.

Let your conversation be always filled with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:6

Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity. Proverbs 21:23

Read through James 3 and see what he has to say about the power of our tongues. Let’s watch our speech and let it be pleasing to God.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You, Or Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

As we strive to follow God’s instructions, keep asking Him for wisdom.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

Father,

Guide us in when and how to speak to others. Fill our mouths with Your grace and truth. Keep Your light shining in us and through us.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Inner Limits

Our thoughts are often the battleground between us and God. Fear and worry take hold. Anger rises up. Guilt comes back to haunt us. The Bible promises us that God has the answers to our inner well-being. Scripture can override each negative pattern in our own minds. Our souls can be prosperous and successful as we listen.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips. Meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8

Each time your mind moves away from God’s promises, take that thought captive!

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10;5

I don’t know about you, but fear and worry creep easily back into my mind. Last week one of my best friends and I each had a day and night of anxiety and worry. Talking about it later, she reminded me that faith should be enough. I agree! If only we remembered that we are all in God’s hands and it IS possible to have victory over those thoughts pouring through our minds.

As we move through this life together, let’s keep reminding each other, lift one another up when we need it, offer Scripture when appropriate and memorize the verses that rise up against the enemies in our own minds.

Lord,

Your eternal love will keep our souls at peace.  Bring us back to You again and again as we let our worldly emotions get the best of us. You are always there waiting to capture and destroy those negative thoughts.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Outer Limits

Our two and a half-year-old grandson likes to test our limits. He is the cutest, smartest, most mischievous kid with a huge personality. He already knows how to push our buttons. If I ask for a hug, he will stare at me as he walks right by me and hugs grandpa. His favorite word right now is, “nope!” If we tell him it’s time for lunch, his response is, “I don’t like lunch!” If we tell him it’s time to go home, his response is, “I don’t like home!”

I love his craving for independence. He wants to do everything by himself and gets upset if we try to help. Keeping him safe is our priority as he tries new things and makes discoveries on his own. Setting limits and boundaries for our children and grandchildren is never easy, but always necessary.

God must shake His almighty head and smile at us in the same way we do our Gavin. His limits and boundaries keep us safe. His Word gives us instructions to follow. I can imagine Him wondering if we will ever learn as we say or do something contrary to all He has taught us.

Maybe it’s time to grow up and listen to the wise advice of our heavenly Father. Let’s say, “Yes!” to listening to following His lead. And when we run back to Jesus, His heart will melt, just as mine does when Gavin runs up to give me a hug and says, "I love you Nana!"

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The rules of the Lord are true, and all are righteous. They are more precious than gold, then much pure gold, sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb   Psalm 19:7-10

God’s word will keep us healthy and safe and one day lead us safely home.

Father,

Help us to say a resounding, “Yes!” to Your commands. Your wise counsel is greater than any earthly wisdom. Keep our children and grandchildren safe under our care and love. Teach them Your ways.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Spirit-fed Spirit-led

Hearing God’s voice may take some practice. Our own wishes and feelings, listening to the voices surrounding us, often take the lead. Our focus is most often on ourselves; on what is easy and comfortable, tastes good, feels good, and what takes our minds off of our worries. Often, the answers come from the world around us, not from our heavenly Father.

Putting God first does not come naturally. The Bible is clear on the battle between the flesh and the Spirit.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to do whatever you want. Galatians 5:17

How do we tell if we are being led by the Spirit and not the flesh? Here are some of the characteristics of the fruit the Spirit brings. And remember, God grows the fruit and does the work.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.  Galatians 5;22-23

Walk with the Spirit and live with love, joy and peace. It may sound impossible, but the more you listen for Jesus and get to know Him more intimately, the more your desires will become His. Nothing is impossible with God!

Jesus,

Overpower us with Your Spirit. Our lives are so short. We want them to count for You and we want to remain in Your peace. The world shouts at us and we fall into the trap. Fill us.

Amen

Spirit-fed Spirit-led

The Holy Spirit fills us with confidence, with peace, and with the knowledge of Jesus. We are filled with His joy. The joy of Jesus never leaves us. He walks with us, talks with us and loves us forever. Remember His goodness and light. He has saved you from eternal darkness. Be filled with joy.

The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy. Psalm 126;3

Love Him. Believe in Him. Be filled with glorious joy.

Though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. 1 Peter 1:8

      Be stong in Him.

Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10b

Father,

We believe You. We love You. Your joy gives us strength to face the day. Fill us and lead us out in joy.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Spirit-fed Spirit-led

The Spirit-fed, Spirit-led life brings confidence, not in ourselves but in Jesus. We have access to the throne of heaven. God has power over everything in heaven and on earth and He shares His treasures with us as His beloved children. When we come to the knowledge of heaven and trust in Jesus to walk us through life, we can shine with the confidence of the light of Christ. He will watch over you with mercy and grace and loving kindness. Blessed are we!

But, blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. Jeremiah 17:7

Keep your eyes and your faith on Jesus. That is what brings freedom from the evil one, from his lies, from the doubts and anxiety waiting to pounce, and from the past that holds you captive.

In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.  Ephesians 3:12

Have faith and believe! I love the following verse. It is hanging on a sun catcher in my kitchen window.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and assurance in what we do not see.  Hebrews 11;1

Father,

Help us to place our complete hope, faith and trust in You as You see us through each and every day. Lead us with Your Holy Spirit. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, until others may see You.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Spirit-fed Spirit-led

Being Spirit-fed and Spirit-led means following the way of peace. If you have a tough decision, pray about it. Look for Scripture to support what is right in His eyes. And take notice of peace within. What leaves you the most unsettled and what brings peace?  Jesus promises us His peace when we follow Him.

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Worldly peace may be thought of as experiencing “no trouble.” Peace with God is inward, not related to circumstances. The peace of Christ surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).  The peace of Christ is available to us at all times, in all circumstances, every day. Pray for His peace and receive this blessing from Scripture:

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Jesus,

Your peace is available no matter where we are or what we are going through each day. Give us Your peace right now, this very minute. It is not peace as the world knows and understands it. It is deep and abiding and forever.

Amen

Spirit-fed Spirit-led

Spirit-fed and Spirit-led. How do we get there? What does that look like? I pray this week we will gain some insight into what God can do through us and within us. How do we relax into the Spirit and allow Him to work? The ways of the world encroach on and invade our lives every single day, every single hour.

The commercials loudly proclaim the need for a new car, a new brand of beer, a must-see television program, a new dress, a new drug and we listen. If we just get that promotion, that new house, that ring on our finger, the first child, retirement, then…what? Then we will be fulfilled? Happy? Content? Peaceful?

Dreams and goals should be a part of our lives, but much of what the world offers does not completely and deeply satisfy. Even our earthly relationships don’t fulfill our every need. That emptiness, that hole, that anxiety can only be filled with the hope and love of Jesus. Put down the phone and pick up His Word. Turn off the TV and pray. Listen for His leading deep within and relax!  Here are two verses to put your mind at ease this week.

Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

Did you notice? It is GOD’s work, not ours. He began His work in us when we accepted him as Lord and Savior. HE will complete it. We are HIS workmanship, not our own. Trust Him with your life. He will do good things through you and in you. We are His.

Father,

Continue Your good work in us. Show us the plans You made before the beginning of time for us. We are Yours now and forever. Remind us of that today as we search for peace and fulfillment.

In Jesus name,

Amen

The Final Battle

The final battle between good and evil will be won when Jesus returns. Evil will come to an end. The end times will not be easy. It’s important, too, to remember that Satan and his followers have, and continue to, disguise themselves. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They masquerade as angels of light. Their words sound appealing, but good intentions and truth are nowhere to be found.

And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15

But Jesus has overcome the world. When it seems as if evil is winning, don’t believe it for a minute. Keep standing. God will allow evil to run its course. Satan is on a leash and our sovereign God knows the end from the beginning.

His plan of redemption was written before time began. We won’t understand all of it until one day we are with Him in the new heaven and on the new earth. As Paul reminds us in 2nd Timothy, “Perilous times will come.” Don’t be alarmed.

“I have told you these things so that in Me you have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:13

The battle has been won. The end has to play out and all things will become new.

Jesus,

You are the First and the Last. You have the whole world and the heavens in Your mighty hands. Give us peace in the midst of turmoil. Give us joy deep within our souls. Love wins. The battle will one day be over and it’s all about You.

Amen

The Believer's Battle

Satan works hardest to destroy the believer and to keep the Gospel away from the world. He would love to remove Christ’s followers. He wants to take away our testimony. He wants to take away our courage. He, most of all, wants us to doubt our God.

Don’t allow him to destroy the trust you have in Jesus. Our deep faith is our greatest weapon in the battle against evil. Believe God above all else. Believe Him above what your circumstances tell you. Believe Him when the path ahead is scary. Believe His promises for your future. And turn away from the devil and his schemes.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10;10

Be strong in the Lord. Do not let Satan destroy and steal your dreams. Jesus promises life to the full, the abundant life that overflows with joy. Believe Him!

Jesus,

You promise us real life. Develop in us a faith filled with trust and obedience. You have given us all things through your life, death, burial and resurrection. Show us how to die to the life we knew and accept the new life in You.

Amen

The Battle of the Mind

Our greatest spiritual battle may be the one within our own mind. Satan loves to deceive us with worry, doubt, fear and false guilt. The world around us says we need to look different, strive harder, to compare and compete, to believe a certain way. God’s will for you is to believe you are precious in His sight. You have what it takes to live a life filled with joy and peace.

Do not listen to the world. Listen to the word. It is filled with promise and hope. It is filled with love and purpose. Transform your mind.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

God’s will for our lives is good, pleasing and perfect. It fits us. It is made for us, each life unique and well-loved. Fill your mind with God’s hope and love and allow His will to work. Renew your mind in Jesus. Release your thoughts to Him.

Lord,

We work so hard to fit in, to be heard, to make money, to look better, to achieve more. Lead us into Your will. It may not look like the rest of the world, but we want to serve You. Guide us into renewing our minds in order to find Your perfect, pleasing and good will.

Amen

Spiritual Armor

Each part of God’s armor is vital. We need to place them around us each and every day as we rage against the spiritual battles surrounding us today.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.  Ephesians 6:14-18

Have confidence in God’s protection. Our hearts are covered with the righteousness of Christ. Our feet walk in the peace of the Gospel. Our belt is tightened with God’s truth. The hope of salvation remains with us, always. Our faith in Christ fights the arrows of Satan. And our offensive weapon, our sword is the word of God. The Word of Christ has great power. In fact, Jesus used the word when He was tempted by the devil himself. (see Matthew 4)

And finally, we have the power of prayer. Pray continually.  Truth, faith, righteousness, peace, salvation and prayer. He has us covered. Walk with confidence in our redeemer.

Jesus,

Your armor covers us and clothes us with Your mighty power. Remind us to place Your armor tightly around us every single day as we resist the flames of the arrows of Satan. With You we can do all things.

Amen

The Battle Within and Without

Our battles from within and without are spiritual. Satan knows our weak spots and plays on them. Our flesh fights against the Holy Spirit and we often listen to those deceiving voices in the world around us and within our own minds.  Let Christ fight for you.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13

Our victorious lives can only come through the power of Christ and His angels. What a gift we have in Jesus and His resurrection power! The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives within us as believers.Tomorrow we will look at the specific elements of our spiritual armor. For now, pray against the evil around us and stand firm in the faith.

Jesus,

You have overcome the evil powers of the world and we stand firm in You. Protect us and remind us daily that our battles are not against flesh and blood, but against the wiles of the evil one. We pray for our enemies today.

Amen

He Is Higher

I pray God has been lifting you up this week, where He is seated, high above it all.  If you feel the darkness beginning to creep in, look for His light and bask in His love. Feel His joy within you and be strong.

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. Isaiah 60:1-2

Let His glory and grace shine upon you. He will satisfy our hearts every day.

Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14

Jesus offers us the abundant life. As long as He is with us, we can sing for joy all of our days.

Jesus,

Thank You for the light that shines upon us, even during our darkest days. Your light shines on forever and ever.

Amen

He Is Higher

The law of the Old Testament turned out to be impossible to keep. Every single person falls short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) The only way for God to bring us back to Himself was to send Jesus to pay the price for us. After Jesus ascended back to heaven, after His brutal death and miraculous resurrection, He sits at the right hand of the Father as He awaits the day we will be with Him.

Our high priest understands us. He suffers along with us. He prays for us. He loves us. He offers hope. As high as He is, He came to us.  His offer? Forgiveness. Love, Eternal life. I pray you are His.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet He did not sin. Hebrews 4:15

Jesus sits at the right hand of God, ready to listen to us, ready to intercede for us, to be our advocate.

Therefore, He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:25

Dear children, I write this to you so that you may not sin, but if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father-Jesus Christ, the righteous one. 1 John 2:1

Jesus will always defend us, will continually intercede for us, will not allow the devil to hold onto us. He is our high priest, available at all times, high above it all.

Jesus,

Thank You for taking our place, for giving us Your righteousness, through only grace, a true gift from above.

Amen

He Is Higher

Is not God in the heights of heaven? And see how lofty are the highest stars! Job 22:12

Above all, in all, through all. God, the creator of all, came to us, and all of it, is about Jesus. He did it for us.

Through Him all things were made. Without Him, nothing was made that has been made. John 1;3

For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen Romans 11:36

In all things. Higher than the heavens. And He calls us His children. He is our protector, our refuge, our salvation. Do not fear.

Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:12

Jesus,

You come down to us, to care for us, to give us hope, to keep us safe, to vanquish death. Thank You.

Amen

He Is Higher

It’s tough to find patience and calm within the turmoil around us. It is virtually impossible to stay away from the hate, the nasty words on both sides of the political spectrum, to speak kindly when we want to lash out. Only the Holy Spirit of God within us can control our thoughts, our hearts, our minds. His ways are mysterious as Job reminds us.

Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above-what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below-what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea. Job 11:7-9

Trust in God’s ways. Lift your mind to the heavens above where the God of the universe resides. Here are some instructions for us during these tough days.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

And finally, be kind. Not easy, is it? Let God build you up, lift you up, hold you up so that we may benefit others.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

Lord,

Help us! We need Your grace, Your presence, Your guidance, more than ever before. Guard our mouths and our hearts to speak kindly, to place love above hate, to watch for Your ways far above what our eyes can see.

In Jesus name,

Amen

He Is Higher

God has been speaking to me. I need it and I need to remember. God is higher than any pandemic. He is higher than politics. He is higher than our worries and fears. He sees from above all that has happened, all that is happening, and all that will come to pass. His Word has been proven to be true.

It is easy for all of us to become caught up and overwhelmed with all that surrounds us. Turning ourselves back to God again and again and placing our complete trust in Him is essential. His ways and His purposes will prevail. Evil will have its day. Sin and our fallen world will play out their course. And our forever earth and heaven will one day be ours.

Allow God to work in your heart this week. Let’s trust Him together, knowing He is higher than it all.

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9

He came down to us to lift us up to Him. Look up and believe!

He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. Ephesians 4:10

Lord,

Fill us, lead us, remind us. It’s all about You and You are worthy. We look to You.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Rise As Incense

Tens of thousands of believers flocked to the National Mall in Washington D. C. last weekend for a time of prayer for our country. Songs were sung. Hands were raised in prayer. And thousands of other believers, including me, were praying right along with them. We prayed for the violence to end, for the hatred to be moved to love, for God to bring us back to Himself.

The raising of our hands, the prayers of God’s people are set in the halls of heaven. He hears our prayers. He understands our pleas. He will not leave us nor forsake us, even in the midst of calamity and chaos.  Keep praying and trust His timing and His purpose.

I call to You, Lord. Come quickly to me. Hear me when I call to You. May my prayer be set before You like incense. May the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. Psalm 141:1-2

Even in the last days of the earth, as told in the book of Revelation, our prayers are heard. They have been lifted to heaven, and the angels have records of them. Remember that as you pray for others, for your family, for our country, for the world.

And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. Revelation 8:4

Father,

Let our prayers rise as incense to You. May they be pleasing to You as you hear our pleas. Guide us into deep prayer in Your presence.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Into Old Age

Along with my husband, many of our friends have retired. What’s next? Do we put our feet up, sit on a beach and indulge ourselves for our remaining years? It’s a tricky question. Certainly, God has placed enjoyment and pleasure in His creation. The warm sunshine, good friends, refreshment and relaxation.

On the other hand, He never tells us to retire from His service. He has purpose for our lives until He takes us home. What is He asking you to do? Moses did not lead his people out of Egypt until he was 80 years old. Abraham and Sarah had Isaac in their 90’s. Caleb was just as strong at 85 as he was when he began serving God as a young man. John was given the revelation of Christ when he was well over 90.

No matter what we do, no matter where we land, He gives us the ability to encourage, to share, to teach, to serve, to show mercy, to gain knowledge, and to love. What an adventure! We have only just begun.

They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright. He is my Rock and there is no wickedness in Him.” Psalm 92:14-15

Father,

We want to bear fruit at every age. Give us purpose and opportunities until we walk through heaven’s door. Give us more and more love to share.

In Jesus name,

Amen
