Timothy was like a
son to Paul. As Paul wrote his last letters, knowing he would soon arrive in
heaven, he instructed Timothy to take his place. As always, Paul reminds Timothy,
as well as all of us, to be aware of all that will take place before the return
of Christ.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the
last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful,
proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love,
unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal not lovers of the good,
treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure, rather than lovers of God. 2
Timothy 3:1-4
Whew,
what a list! Unfortunately, we live in such times. Jesus tells us that the last
days will be just as in the days of Noah, full of violence and evil. In
contrast, we are told to focus on things above, to renew our minds in Scripture
and to think on these things listed in the following verses.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true,
whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think on such
things. Philippians 4:8
Renew
your minds and believe Christ can capture our thoughts to think on those
things. Find something lovely today.
Father,
Thank You for the Scriptures guiding us into Your ways. Your
ways are unlike the world around us. It is challenging, in this culture, to
think like You, but we no longer belong to this world, but to Yours. Thank You,
too, for all of the Scripture on understanding the last days.
