Right after Jesus
says, “You are the salt of the earth,” He gives us a warning.
“You are
the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made
salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot. Matthew 5:13
When that valuable
salt was contaminated in any way there was nothing to do with it but throw it
on the road. In Minnesota that is not a bad use of salt in the winter! We want
to be useful to Jesus and do the works planned out for us.
For we
are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10
I don’t want to get
to heaven and find out I missed any of the good works Christ planned for me.
Staying in constant contact with our Lord and recognizing His presence in all
we say and do, reading His words of love to us and passing along the saltiness
and light He has given us are a privilege and a worthy goal.
Let that salt
shaker keep us freshly salted every single day so we never lose our flavor and
essence of Christ.
Dear Lord,
Show us the good works we are to do today. Remind us of how
short our lives are and give us the courage to be the salt of the earth.
In Jesus name,
Amen
