The God of creation came to live as one of us. The Word
came to life in the flesh. The Messiah was here! Kings and queens, presidents
and prime ministers in today’s world are greeted with fanfare, with pomp and
circumstance, with lavish meals and dress-up clothes. But Jesus?
No fanfare for
Him. There was no presidential suite, no plush pillows and gold inlaid
plumbing. His head was laid in a manger, next to the animals, wrapped in a
cloth. But the glory of heaven shone around this humble beginning. The angels
spoke and brought the good news. Did they announce it first to the top guns? To
the rich and famous? No, the crowd, were rag-tag at best, and the surrounding
field was filled with sheep. These lowly shepherds were the least of the
culture two thousand years ago. And God chose them.
He chooses me
and He chooses you. The humble seem able to respond best to His glory, to understand
the good news, to realize the need for a Savior.
And
there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their
flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the
Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do
not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the
people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, He is the
Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:8-11
Good news. A
Savior has been born to you and to me. The humble baby in the manger is the
Lord of all.
Jesus,
The good news is overwhelming. You came to save us from
our sins and and to offer us everlasting life. Thank You, precious Lord.
Amen
