The angel’s news is ringing in Mary’s ears. God has chosen
her. The Holy Spirit has overshadowed her and the young, virgin girl is to give
birth to the One and Only, the Son of God. Elizabeth’s baby leaps for joy in her womb, as
he recognizes the Messiah within Mary.
Mary can no longer hide her praise. Words
come flowing from her. Words that are sung over and over again in churches
worldwide, thousands of years later. Maybe you have heard them. Here is, what
is called, Mary’s Magnificat:
And Mary
said, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for
He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant. From now on all
generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for
me-Holy is His name. His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation
to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered
those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from
their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good
things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped His servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful, to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as He
promised our ancestors.’ Luke 1:46-55
Let this be your worship today.
God is mindful of you. He blesses your soul. He will do great things for you
and Holy is His name. He is merciful. He has performed mighty deeds in the past
and His deeds will continue into the future. His promises never fail. Let Him
stir your heart to praise Him, just as He stirred His mother’s soul thousands
of years ago. We praise you Jesus.
Lord,
Like Mary, we want to be filled with praises that overflow. We
thank You for coming to this earth to save us. Your miraculous birth leaves us
in awe of all You did for us.
In Jesus name,
Amen
