Foe, Follower, Friend, Filled

Before we know Jesus, we are enemies of God. God cannot look at sin, (Habakkuk 1:13) and as we all know, none of us can claim to have no sin. (1 John 1:10) We were once lost and now we are found. Have you accepted Jesus as Lord? This week we will follow some of the mistaken beliefs about Jesus.

Many who claim to be Christians are, as Jesus called the Pharisees, (the religious leaders of His day) “white-washed tombs.”  (Matthew 23:27) Jesus recognized their hearts. From the outside, they were doing everything right. They followed the rules. They prayed. They fasted. They gave one-tenth of their income. And yet, Jesus knew the truth.

Some of us put on our Sunday faces, sit in a pew each week, do good deeds and claim to be Christ-believers, but we are far from Him, following man-made traditions. Jesus quoted this verse from the book of Isaiah:

The Lord says, “These people come near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship of Me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.” Isaiah 29:13 (see also Mark 7:6)

Let’s check our hearts this week. Do we believe Jesus is Lord? Have we turned our lives over to Him in humility and repentance? Our insides will be cleanses forevermore! He died for us.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Therefore, I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:3

Jesus,

Transform our lives as we call you, “Lord.” We want to live by the Holy Spirit. Show us how to pass the true message of the Gospel around the world. You long for everyone to come to You.

Amen
