Foe, Follower, Friend, Filled

Are you following Jesus? Sometimes we keep Jesus at a safe distance. We believe He exists, but we don’t want to get too close. What if He wants to change us and our ways? What if we don’t fit in anymore? The world will be against us. What does Jesus say to this?

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That’s why the world hates you. John 15:18-19

If you don’t fit in with the crowd, if you are up against persecution, be comforted. Jesus has chosen you! You belong to Him and you will be blessed.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10

Do you remember the story of the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years? She had been to several doctors, spent all of her money and she was losing hope. Until she began to follow behind Jesus amidst the crowds. She was determined to catch up to Him. Finally, she edged her way closer until she touched the hem of His gown. Jesus immediately turned to her:

But Jesus said, “Someone touched Me. I know that power has gone out from Me. Luke 8:46

When she caught up to Him and knelt before Him, Jesus blessed her.

Then He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace. Luke 8:48

Catch up to Jesus and kneel before Him. Have faith. He will heal your soul.

Lord,

If we are keeping a safe distance, bring us closer to You today. Even if the world around us seems to be moving farther and farther from You, we long to be close and touch You.

In Jesus name,

Amen
