The Heart of the Matter

God fills our hearts, watches over our hearts and reminds us that guarding our hearts is most important. Whatever resides within a man or woman’s heart will reveal itself as they live out their lives. The Bible reminds us of this truth in several verses. Here are a couple:

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21

For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Matthew 12:24b

We have all witnessed cruel anger or experienced the harsh tongue of another. When the heart is not filled with love, evil abounds. The lives of so many are burdened with violent outbursts, with abuse or addiction.

Where do they go? How will they learn to fill their hearts with goodness and love, with peace and comfort? Of course, you and I have the answer, don’t we? It’s Jesus. The love of the perfect Savior transforms, redeems, rejuvenates, and fills the lives and hearts of the lonely, the abandoned, the lost and the hopeless.

No life is too far gone. No addiction is too strong. No history of abuse is impossible to undo and become beautiful and bright. I’ve heard the testimonies. I have seen lives changed. You, too?

How can we help but speak of this truth? This mind-blowing, unimaginable truth? He is real. He is waiting with open arms. He will change lives. He has changed mine.

Lord,

Open hearts to be transformed. Help us to dig deeper into the needs of others. We can’t imagine walking in the footsteps of others who need You, but we can share our stories, be a witness for You wherever we go.

In Jesus name,

Amen
