Here I Am

Are you available for Jesus? What is He calling you to do? Where is He asking you to serve? Who will He place in your life today? We just have to be ready when He calls. When God called Abraham, he said, “Here I am.” (Genesis 22). When He called out to Jacob, he replied, “Here I am.” (Genesis 46) When He called out to Moses, he answered, “Here I am.” (Exodus 3) When He called Samuel, he replied, “Here I am.” (1 Samuel 3)

Just as Jesus said to God, “Here I am…” (Hebrews 10) we, too, can do the will of God. Here are the words to a favorite hymn:

I, the Lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save

I, who made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rain
I have borne my people's pain
I have wept for love of them
They turn away

I will break their hearts of stone
Give them hearts for love alone
Who will speak my word to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them
My hand will save

Finest bread I will provide
'Til their hearts be satisfied
I will give my life to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart

Is our Lord calling to you in the night? Is He calling to you right now? How will we answer? Let’s try it together, “Here I am, Lord!”

Father,

Give us your confidence. It is always Christ in us, nothing of ourselves. Give us the confidence of King David and the wisdom of Solomon, the bravery of Gideon and the help of others around us as we serve.

In Jesus name,

Amen
