A Word for the Weekend

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”  Isaiah 43;18-19

Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.  Isaiah 46:9

The two verses above seem to contradict each other. One begins with, “Forget the former things” and the other begins “Remember the former things.”  The former things have been on my mind all summer. We will be celebrating our 40th high school class reunion tomorrow night. Just the planning has brought back so many wonderful memories.

Past hurts and mistakes can be left behind, right along with unforgiveness. Let the guilt go too. God has forgiven you as far as the East is from the West. Take the lessons learned into the future. Tomorrow night we will reminisce about our shared past, talk about our current lives and look into the future possibilities. Many classmates are thinking and planning for retirement.

God’s children never retire. He always has work for us to do. It is an adventure. Bring along all of the goodness from your past, learn from the difficult mistakes and look forward to the possibilities. Talk it over with some great friends. I can’t wait.
