Forgiveness

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

     Forgiveness is healing. Forgiveness begins with Jesus. Forgiveness is often impossibly difficult. As believers, Jesus has forgiven our sins, past, present and future. We have freedom because of His grace that gave us everything. And we didn’t deserve it. Forgiving others gives us freedom, too. Holding onto anger and hurt and grief can destroy us from the inside out. It gives the unforgiven person power over us. We may not forget, but we need to forgive.

     Understanding the type of forgiveness Christ gives, helps us to give it unconditionally to others. That doesn’t mean we forget past hurts, but we release their power over us. We forgive those who trespass against us, as Christ first forgave us.

Jesus,

Teach us how to forgive. We pray for that ability today. We release our hurt and despair and anger to You. You took it all on the cross. We forgive others because You forgive us.
